No Canon camera that I know of manages to take 50 pictures each second, might be able to in video mode or with very low resolution (probably not). You need a "high speed" camera of some sort, can't help you with that.

I'm sorry to have no satisfiable solution. The way I had finally done it:
- Coding a Windows Forms application that talks to the camera (having no user inputs at all)
- A WCF service that notifies the Forms application on user's http requests (the service being self-hosted by the Forms app)

Take a look at Wayne Hartman's solution. It's half the way at least.

Get image name

I'm making a simple c# program that requires to get the image name as fast as the photo is taken (only the name by now, later I'll need other image properties). I've been trying different ways to do it, but I only approach to make a photo using the pc.

FocusInfo

I am curious if anyone has had any success in getting valid information from the API for the focusinfo property. Everything seems to be functioning properly for me but the focusinfo array (128 items) appears to have bogus data and doesn't seem to update as liveview is running.

Any help or ideas here would be great.

Events problems

I created a webservice for controlling a canon 1000d. Photos are taken and stored on the card the machine.
I have an event that should be triggered when a photo shoot in order to capture the photo and save the photo in another location.
the problem is that the event and never quite fired.
if I run the application in a form in which the code is equal to the webservice the event is fired without any problems.

can someone give a help?

Windows 7 and XP compatibility issues

Hi everyone,

I wrote a multithread program to take pictures with the CanonSDK. This is the basics of the program:

The thread number one runs a socket application, that waits for remote comands;

The thread number two enters in a MessagePump looping after calling thread number three;

The thread number three takes pictures in each period of time, like 5 minutes.
Here is the problem:

The program receives remote comands to take pictures and works correctly. But when I try to change the camera properties, I receive an "Internal_Error" answer.
The program works perfecly on Windows 7, but this problem appears when I try to run it in Windows XP.

I'd appreciate any help. Thank You.

LCD Illumination using SDK

Has anybody found a way to enable/toggle the LCD illumination using the Canon SDK ? It would be the same functionality as pressing the illumination button on the camera. I imagine it's some property or something that must be set, but I could not find anything in the C code. I'm looking to have it go on when my app starts, and go off when my app ends.

I've managed to take pictures and download images to PC in raw format using the ED-SDK 2.8. Now I'm trying to load the cr2 file (from the PC) and displaying it. I'm using C# but any help in any language would be appreciated.

The reason for the frequency of sessions is that my camera related code is built into a command line process. I had to take that approach for a bunch of reasons:

1. Any language capable of running sub-processes can control cameras by launching the camera process.
2. Speed and simplicity. Process is written in C. No JNI/JNA needed to control cameras with Java apps. No dangerous 'unsafe' sections to run it with C# apps.
3. Stops C# apps from dieing due to the language's poor heap management (Google 'C# heap compaction' if you don't know about C#'s serious heap management flaws).
4. This approach also makes it possible to control multiple cameras simultaneously from one app.

The end result for me is a responsive, memory conscientious, multi-platform (Windows and OS X) Java application capable of controlling multiple cameras simultaneously.

50D flash synch port disables

I am wondering if anyone here has experienced what I am currently experiencing.

Scenario 1:
1. Camera (50D) is in normal mode of operation and is not connected to the PC via USB
2. Dial is set to manual mode.
3. Onboard flash is in the closed position.
4. External flash (AlienBees B400) is connected to the sync port.
5. When shot is taken external flash triggers as expected.

Scenario 2: THE PROBLEM CHILD
1. Camera is connected to the PC via USB.
2. Dial is set to manual mode.
3. Onboard flash is in the closed position.
4. External flash (AlienBees B400) is connected to the sync port.
5. When shot is taken (using CameraCommand_TakePicture) the external flashdoes not trigger.
** Additional Step **
6. Open onboard flash
7. Take another shot, again using CameraCommand_TakePicture, the onboard and external flashes both trigger as expected.

Has anyone experienced this? If so would you be so kind as to share how you resolved...

Is kEdsImageSrc_RAWFullView supported on Mac?

I have a simple C app built via Xcode for Mac that is misbehaving. I'm attempting to capture a RAWFullView image and simply save it to disk. My code works fine on Windows and when I change kEdsImageSrc_RAWFullView to kEdsImageSrc_FullView it works on Mac. The problem is FullView yields a ~20MB compressed file (JPG I think) and RAWFullView yields a 90MB uncompressed file, which is what I need. When I attempt to download RawFull my program goes nuts and dies. Whatever the SDK is doing is bad enough that Xcode's debugger stops functioning.

So my question is, has anybody been able to acquire RawFullView images on Mac via the SDK? If so, what's the trick?

I got RawFullView working, sort of. What I needed was uncompressed image data and I found a work around to get it. It came down to some methods I was using that worked on Windows that are not supported on OSX. What I was doing was acquiring RAW data in memory on Windows (~90MB) and what I had to do on OSX was save the image...

WebView LiveScope SDK 2.2

Hello,

I have the Canon WebView Livescope SDK 2.2 and I want to create a console application for the Canon VB-C60 network camera. My ultimate goal is to apply computer vision algorithms to the images captured by the camera using OpenCV. Is anyone familiar with the SDK and can help me answer these questions?

1. Is it even possible to create a console application using C++? In the Programmer's Manual, there is a section entitledUsing the SDK with Visual C++ 2008 (p.31) but it is really brief, and there are no explanations on creating a console application. There are no C++ samples included in the SDK, and all the samples in Visual Basic and Visual C# is not a console application.

2. I am using Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. The sample programs (both Visual Basic and Visual C#) on the SDK do not compile in 64 bit, only in 32 bit (x86). Why is this so? Can it still run on 64-bits? If so, what are the procedures to make it run in 64 bit mode?

I had a variety of problems with Xcode too. It took a couple of hours to figure everything out and basically ended up being due to simple configuration stuff. This is a good place to document what I had to do so here goes nothing. I went through this a few hours ago so there is a good chance I've already forgotten a step/setting or two. Hopefully what I remember will be enough to help developers get started.

First problem, getting a copy of Xcode. Go to Apple's website and they'll try to charge you for a membership before you can get the *free* Xcode download. Good news is, you can get it off of your OS X install disk. Pop in your disk, a window shows up, click 'Optional Installs' and you should see 'Xcode.mpkg'. Open that and the installation starts.

Next you need to open Xcode. Even this step took a bit of time to figure out. After Xcode is installed, you can find it in the 'Developer/Applications' folder which is found in the same folder as your main 'Applications' folder.

I agree that EdsGetEvent() should not be used on Mac. On windows it seems to work fine but on Mac it only works in some situations. Calling it keeps EdsGetSession from hanging indefinitely but callbacks do not appear to work. My app(s) are simple command line apps and I'm new to Mac so if anybody knows how to implement a C event loop on Mac please post some example code.

I spent a lot of time trying to get an event loop to work via Carbon and other things. Strangely, the only thing that worked was EdsGetEvent(). I don't know why I couldn't get it to work before my original post but it works now.

I've accomplished what you are attempting. My application communicates with multiple cameras via a sub-process. I found that the easiest way to accomplish what I wanted was to write all of the camera code in C and then run that process multiple times (once per camera) from my app (C#). I haven't yet thoroughly tested this but I have successfully watched live view simultaneously from two cameras (50D and 40D) connected to one host. I assume capturing images and other operations will work without any problems.

This may not work for your project but it is probably worth considering.

I have modified the sample code to issue the take picture command instead of the bulb command. I've also been able to successfully set the Tv, Av and ISO and am getting the images like I would expect. However, for very long exposures (a few seconds) the program seems to stall out...I have to kill it using windows task mangler. Camera will remain in this strange mode until I (a) turn off camera, at which point the camera screen says something about "waiting for images to record" (b) unplug USB and (c) remove battery. I'm suspecting it has something to do with the Sleep(2000) in the message pump since I get the same behavior when I set that sleep value to something thats apparently too short (like 500)...in this case I hear two images captured (which the sleep(2000) is there to avoid) and then program and camera hang.

If I kill the app but don't do (a-c) to the camera above (thereby leaving camera in hung state), I can run the code again and see that it gets stuck at EdsCloseSession()....

Callback Parameters gone wild

Using Win Forms

Problem:
- take picture - works
- callback - is called, *but* the parameters don't do what they should be doing.

Code:: handleObjectEvent( EdsObjectEvent myevent, EdsBaseRef object, EdsVoid * context)

myevent: is: 10353208 , i would expect the kEdsObjectEvent_DirItemRequestTransfer value
object: is null (expect some information about the file to download
context: dont know what to expect, but suprise: here comes the kEdsObjectEvent_DirItemRequestTransfer

I've had the (dis)pleasure of having to interface to labview a few times, although not with the canon SDK. I would assume your issue with EDSDK.dll is something that labview is doing behind the scenes that interferes with how the SDK wants to function. If you've checked the obvious things like matching the calling convention in your Code Interface Node, then you might be out of luck. Also, if you do get the SDK to initialize with Labview, you might have more problems down the road when working with the other SDK function calls. Specifically, two things cross my mind:
1. CoInitializeEx( NULL, COINIT_APARTMENTTHREADED ) - If an SDK function is called from a thread that is different than the thread you called EdsInitializeSDK in, you have to make sure the other thread is Apartment Threaded by calling the function I just mentioned. I have no idea how labview would behave if that function was called from within it. It might work, or it might break things terribly....you could always...
